I'm broadly interested in emotions in sociocultural context: how the cultures we are socialized into and the relationships we navigate in our daily lives shape the emotions we feel, want to feel, and try to show to others, as well as how congruent or incongruent these different emotional processes are. In particular, I'm currently investigating the downstream consequences of expressing emotions that diverge from what we're actually experiencing and how well we understand our friends' emotional worlds. To get at these questions, I use cross-cultural surveys, behavioral experiments, and dyadic data.
I'm also interested in translation in the context of cross-cultural research. What makes a good translation, and how can we work towards translations that are consistent and that faithfully preserve nuance across different languages?
Outside of the lab, I love eating and (to a slightly lesser extent) cooking, playing tennis, learning languages, and long city walks with friends.
